A Cats Day... cartoon

This is the third cartoon in this series based on an idea that a cat could fashionably wear a fur coat (faux) of course and partake in a random act of street exposure without getting into trouble. Nothing to expose but feels good anyway, hehe!!! Enjoy!

A Cats Day cartoon series

This is the second cartoon from A Cats Day series. I have lots of currawong birds flying overhead at my house and they drop berries all around you like little bombs. I felt the need to get 'em back!

A Cats Day -cartoon series

This is a sries of cartoons I've been playing around with and will post them as they invent themselves. I'm designing the series around this little male cat, of which I'm still trying to come up with a good name, and the frustrations and craziness he deals with from day to day. Kinda like my life really.

Blue Gum Art Show 2011

My latest work was showcased in a local art show I coordinated called Blue Gum Art Show on the Central Coast NSW at Ourimbah. We had over 180 artworks on display and included a primary school age section for children so they could experience what it was like to exhibit their artwork and have people actually buying pieces. It was a very exciting day on September 18, 2011 with 17 paintings SOLD, included was my acrylic painting titled 'Blue Gum' which SOLD by 11am that day. Amazing! Also on show was my charcoal drawing at the top titled 'Flight of Cockatoos Passed Tall Timbers'. The charcoal drawing at the bottom titled 'Tall Timbers' was the 1st prize in the raffles sold on the day. It's very fulfilling to finally see artwork manifesting itself from my hands and actually being sold. I think I'll drink to that! Cheers!

Gosford Art Prize 2011

I was thinking about leaving this painting up on my wall for a while as I had entered in 2 art shows previously over 10mths when I thought I'd enter it in the Gosford Art Prize with a thought it would automatically go into The Overflow Exhibition. Never thinking the unthinkable...I went to the opening of The Gosford Art Prize and upon walking around the gallery...THERE IT WAS! Yes..it was hanging on the wall at the Gosford Regional Art Gallery. Well a little 'jump' and a quiet scream of excitement got me realising..I, Cat Soper, FINALLY have my first ever painting hanging in a gallery being judged a finalist in the Gosford Art Prize. Apparently there were over 600 artworks submitted and only 165 were judged to hang in the gallery. So there it is and it hangs in the gallery until November 27, 2011. Amazing momentous moment..yay! Oh by the way this framed painting is done with watercolour and gold leaf.

Black Cockatoos- charcoal drawing

Just finished this drawing today, thought I'd play around with my charcoal sticks and draw the landscape that surrounds my house. The panel of flying cockatoos is actually a piece of watercolour paper with torn edges and is a separate piece glued on to the charcoal drawing to give it a sort of 2D effect.

Dragonfly Painting

This fun painting has just been SOLD and it was relatively fast and easy to produce so I may do a series of these around the same theme.

Pet Portrait

This is a watercolour painting I did for friends who's beautiful dog

'Boris' had passed away. Many hours of fine brush strokes creating the fur nearly sent me crazy but I think the detail was needed to bring out just how thick his coat was.

Caricature

My latest caricature completed for a neighbour who turns 50. I've been using pastel pencils for rendering the face but still find coloured pencils best for rendering fine detail of the other objects in my caricatures.

April Rain

All these photos were taken in my garden with my Nikon, during and after the many rain spells we've endured on the coast this April. Remember, when you seem to be so sick of the rain, just look around you and notice how beautiful your surrounds seem during it all, it just takes your breath away.
